Creating Tournaments & Draws
Q: How do I add a new tournament?
A: To add a new tournament, log in to your Organizer Dashboard. Fill out the ‘Add a New Tournament’ form with the required details (name, dates, sport, events, etc.) and click the ‘Create Tournament’ button.
Q: How do I get players to sign up for it? / How do I register someone?
A: You don’t add players manually! You share a unique registration link. Go to your Organizer Dashboard, find your tournament, and click the ‘Share Link’ button to get the link for your players.
Q: How does the draw work if I have 10 players for a 16-player knockout?
A: No problem! If you have fewer players than the selected knockout draw size (like 10 players for a size 16 draw), the system automatically gives ‘Byes’ (free passes) to the top-seeded players in the first round. This ensures the draw works correctly.
Q: What’s a Bye?
A: A ‘Bye’ is like a free pass in the first round of a knockout tournament. It’s given automatically to seeded players when there aren’t enough participants to fill all the spots in the draw.
Q: Can I arrange the groups myself for a league?
A: Yes! When creating a League draw, you have two options: ‘Automatic’ (which uses seeding) or ‘Manual Drag & Drop’. Choose ‘Manual’ to place players into groups exactly how you want.
Q: How are seeds used in the draws?
A: Seeds are used to ensure top players don’t meet in the early rounds. In Knockout draws, seeded players are placed strategically in the bracket, often receiving ‘Byes’ if needed. In Automatic League draws, seeding helps distribute stronger players across different groups.
Q: Can I regenerate a draw if I made a mistake?
A: Yes, you can regenerate a draw from the ‘Draws & Fixtures’ tab in Tournament Management. However, be very careful: Regenerating a draw will permanently delete all existing matches and scores for that event. It’s best to do this only before any matches have been played or scheduled.
Q: A player withdrew after the draw was made. What should I do?
A: If a player withdraws after the draw is made, you can manage this from the Draw view in Tournament Management. Find their upcoming match and use the ‘Manage Match’ option. You can declare a ‘Walkover’ for their opponent. This will automatically advance the opponent in a Knockout or award points in a League.
Q: Can I run team events?
A: Yes! When selecting event categories during tournament creation, you’ll see options for ‘Team’ events (like ‘Men’s Team’, ‘Junior Boys Team’, etc.) alongside individual events like Singles and Doubles.
Q: How do doubles partners sign up?
A: When a player registers for a doubles event via the entry form, they can specify their partner’s name. Our system attempts to match pairs up. If a partner registers separately, ensure they enter the same partner name. You can review and manage pairs in the ‘Entries’ tab of Tournament Management.
Q: Can I change the tournament dates after I create it?
A: Currently, editing core tournament details like dates or selected events after creation isn’t directly supported through the interface. You might need to delete and recreate the tournament if major changes are needed before players have registered.
Q: Can I delete a tournament?
A: Yes, as the Organizer, you can delete a tournament from your Dashboard using the ‘Delete’ button. Warning: This action is permanent and will erase all associated data, including entries, draws, and scores.
Troubleshooting
Q: I’m stuck on a loading screen, or the page is blank!
A: A blank or stuck loading screen is almost always a connection or cache issue. Let’s try a “hard refresh” first. This forces your browser to download a fresh copy of the app. On Windows/Linux: Press Ctrl + Shift + R. On Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + R. If that doesn’t work, please try clearing your browser’s cache. If the problem continues, there may be an issue with your network connection to our database.
Q: I’m an organizer, and my “Create Tournament” button is stuck on “Loading settings…”
A: This is a known issue that happens if your browser can’t get permission to read our app’s settings. 1. Please do a hard refresh (Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R). 2. If it’s still stuck, it’s likely a temporary firewall or network issue blocking access to Firebase. Please check your network or try again in a few minutes. 3. This feature is in place to protect you from creating a tournament before the promo-code settings have loaded.
Q: I can’t log in. It’s not working.
A: I can help with that. First, please double-check: * Are you on the “Log In” page? Sometimes users are on the “Sign Up” page by mistake, which won’t work for an existing account. * If you are on the correct page, try the “Forgot Password?” link to reset your password. If you’re still unable to log in, please contact support directly.
Q: My save button isn’t working / I’m getting an error when saving.
A: First, please ensure you have a stable internet connection. Sometimes temporary network issues can cause saving problems. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) and attempt the action again. If the error persists, please note down the error message (if any) and contact support at matchbuilderin@gmail.com
Account & Billing
Q: Why do I have to pay? / My tournament is locked / I see a payment page
A: This is the correct behavior if the 15-day free promotional period has ended. Any tournament created during the 15-day launch promo is automatically upgraded to “Premium” for free. Any tournament created after that date is set to paymentStatus: 'pending' by default. You are seeing the “Activate Your Tournament” page because this new tournament was created after the promo ended. You’ll just need to select a plan for this specific tournament to activate it.
Q: I paid but it’s still locked / My payment didn’t work
A: I understand this is frustrating. When you complete a payment, our payment partner (Razorpay) sends a “webhook” to our database to unlock your tournament. This is usually instant but can sometimes be delayed. Please try these two steps: 1. Wait 60 seconds. 2. Hard refresh the page (Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R). If it’s still locked after 2-3 minutes, please email us at support@matchbuilder.in with your Account Email and Tournament Name. We will manually verify your payment and activate your tournament.
Q: My payment failed, what should I check?
A: Payment failures can happen for various reasons. Please check: 1. Ensure your card details/UPI info are entered correctly. 2. Verify you have sufficient funds or credit limit. 3. Check if your bank requires OTP or other authorization. If it continues to fail, try a different payment method or contact Razorpay/your bank. If you believe the charge went through but the tournament isn’t active, contact support@matchbuilder.in.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We process payments securely through Razorpay. They accept various methods common in India, including UPI, Credit/Debit Cards, Net Banking, and popular digital wallets.
Q: I chose Basic plan, can I upgrade to Premium later?
A: Currently, the plan is selected once during the activation payment. Upgrading an already active tournament from Basic to Premium is not directly supported. You would need to contact support@matchbuilder.in for assistance with this.
Q: How do I edit my profile information (name, club, logo)?
A: You can edit your organizer profile anytime! Click on your name or profile icon in the dashboard (usually top right), or look for an ‘Edit Profile’ link. This will take you to a page where you can update your name, club details, and upload a new logo.
Q: I forgot my password, what do I do?
A: No problem! On the main Login page, click the ‘Forgot Password?’ link. Enter your account email address, and you’ll receive instructions on how to reset your password.
Staff / Umpire Questions
Q: I’m an umpire, not an organizer. How do I join a tournament I’m supposed to work at? / Where do I put the code?
A: Welcome! As a staff member, you need to join using a 6-digit invite code. Log in to your Umpire / Scorer Dashboard, click the green “+ Join a Tournament” button, and enter the code your Organizer gave you.
Q: How do I invite an umpire or scorer?
A: As an Organizer, go to your main Dashboard and click ‘Manage Staff’. From there, you can invite new staff members using their email address and assign them a role (like Scorer or Chief Umpire). They will receive an email to create their account.
Q: What can my staff do?
A: Invited staff (Scorers, Umpires, Chief Umpires) can log in to their own dashboard. They can join tournaments you give them invite codes for. Depending on their role, they can view assigned matches, score matches digitally, and Chief Umpires can help manage schedules and assignments.
Q: What’s the difference between Scorer and Chief Umpire roles?
A: A ‘Scorer’ or ‘Umpire’ can primarily view their assigned matches and use the digital scoring interface. A ‘Chief Umpire’ typically has more permissions, allowing them to also assign umpires to matches and potentially help manage schedules within the tournament they’ve joined.
Using Features- Ticker/Scoreboard
Q: How do I score a match as an umpire?
A: As an assigned Umpire or Scorer for a tournament, you’ll log in to your Scorer Dashboard. Find the tournament, click ‘View Matches’, and select the match you need to score. The digital scoring interface will guide you through recording points, games, and sets according to the sport’s rules.
Q: What if the umpire makes a mistake scoring?
A: Mistakes happen! Scorers have an ‘Undo’ button within the Match Scoring interface to correct the last point entered. For older errors, a Chief Umpire or Organizer might need to adjust the score manually from their management view.
Q: The Live Ticker for my match isn’t updating!
A: The Live Ticker is a direct, real-time feed from the Umpire’s scoring device. If it’s not updating, check: 1. Scorer Offline: Ensure the scorer’s device has internet. 2. Wrong Ticker: The ticker is match-specific. Close the old one and open the link for the current match from your Tournament Management page.
Q: Can anyone see the tournament draw and scores?
A: Yes! Every tournament has a public view page. You can find the link using the ‘Share Link’ button on your Organizer Dashboard – the public link is different from the player entry link. Anyone with the public link can see the draws and live scores without needing to log in.
Q: Where is the public draw link?
A: Use the ‘Share Link’ button on your Organizer Dashboard. It will show the player entry link. The public draw link usually follows the format .../public-draw/TOURNAMENT_ID. Replace TOURNAMENT_ID with the ID from the entry link.
Q: Does the public draw view show live scores instantly?
A: Yes! The public draw view page updates in near real-time. As soon as an umpire updates the score on their device, the public page should reflect the change within seconds, depending on internet connectivity.
Q: How does scoring work for Tennis (Advantage, Deuce, Tiebreaks)? A: Our scoring system is designed for specific sports. For Lawn Tennis, it correctly handles the 15-30-40-Game scoring, Deuce/Advantage situations, and standard Set/Match Tiebreaks according to the rules you configure (e.g., Best of 3 sets).

Q: What is MatchBuilder.in?
A: MatchBuilder is an all-in-one web app for tournament organizers. It helps you manage player registrations, automatically create professional knockout and league draws, run digital scoring, and display live results and draws to the public.
Q: Who is MatchBuilder for?
A: MatchBuilder is designed for anyone running a sports tournament. This includes local clubs, school and college associations, corporate leagues, and professional event organizers.
Which sports do you support?
A: Our platform is built to handle scoring and draw-generation for multiple racket sports, including Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Squash, and Pickleball.
Q: I signed up for one sport. Do I need a new account for a different sport?
A: No! Your one organizer account allows you to create and manage tournaments for any sport our platform supports. The sport you picked at signup is just a default for your profile.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Just sign up for an organizer account! After a quick one-time profile setup (onboarding), you’ll land on your dashboard, where you can immediately start creating your first tournament.
Q: How does the pricing work?
A: We operate on a pay-per-tournament model. You create your tournament, and to “activate” it (i.e., start managing entries and draws), you pay a one-time fee. We offer a Basic plan and a Premium plan for each tournament.
Q: What is the “Premium Plan”?
A: The Premium Plan includes all features of the Basic Plan (registrations, draw creation, scoring) plus our exclusive Live Ticker for OBS Studio or any supported streaming apps, allowing you to broadcast professional-looking live scores on your stream.
Q: How does the Live Ticker work?
A: If you’ve activated the Premium Plan for your tournament, you will get a special link from the “Manage Tournament” page. This link opens a “ticker” page in your browser. You can then add this browser source to your streaming software (like OBS) to overlay live scores on your video feed.
